Join Friends of the Library

Friends of the Library is a nonprofit advocacy organization which supports the Library. Our volunteer members advocate, educate, and raise funds on behalf of the Library, its patrons, and the community.

Our Mission
The Friends of Waterloo Public Library actively strive to strengthen the library by providing funds and volunteers to support the library. Through our projects, we provide children with an educational head start, encourage literacy and foster life-long learning for adults.

We're a group the gets things done! Since 1976, the Friends have raised nearly a half-million dollars to enhance the programs and services offered by WPL.

We have provided funding for:

  • Print and non-print materials
  • Computers, software and digital camera
  • Shelving and display units
  • Funding assistance for youth programs and special projects such as "Read to Feed" and the Donuthead Cedar Valley Youth Read

The Friends also support projects such as the Friends Shop and the Used Book and Magazine sales. We provide hundreds of volunteer hours each year in support of these and other programs such as:

  • Third Age Project
  • Volunteer Recognition
  • Cedar Valley Reads
  • Summer Library Program
  • Retired Living Book Delivery
  • Traveling Tales
