Our Mission

The Friends of Waterloo Public Library actively strive to strengthen the library by providing funds and volunteers to support the library. Through our projects, we provide children with an educational head start, encourage literacy and foster life-long learning for adults.

We're a group the gets things done! Since 1976, the Friends have raised nearly a half-million dollars to enhance the programs and services offered by WPL.

We have provided funding for:

  • Print and non-print materials
  • Computers and software
  • Shelving and display units
  • Assistance for youth programs and special projects such as Cedar Valley's Youth Reads.
  • Books for Babies
  • The Hive - A Maker Colony located at the Waterloo Public Library

We provide hundreds of volunteer hours each year in support of these and other programs:

  • Third Age Project
  • Summer Library Programming
  • Traveling Tales
  • Friends Used Book Shop
