There is something you should know. A library, unlike a regular person, cannot purchase an eBook or eAudiobook from Amazon or Barnes & Noble and then lend it out to patrons. Digital content is treated differently by the publishers and companies who manage content licensing. We want to offer as many eBooks and eAudiobooks as we can to you, however, many publishers' policies are preventing us from bringing you some of the works from your favorite authors. The following companies refuse to sell or license eBooks to libraries for eBook lending:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWNLOADING TO YOUR DEVICE

Barnes and Noble's Nook - (eBooks)

• Please note that to borrow an eBook, you must use a computer loaded with Adobe Digital Editions. Once you have Adobe Digital Editions, you may download an eBook, and transfer it to your Nook via USB cable. See our instructions to get started!

Amazon Kindle Fire - (eBooks)

• ATTENTION All Kindle Fire users: Penguin, one book publisher, has changed how they are lending out eBooks for Kindle Fire users. Ebooks loaned for reading on Kindle Fire devices will need to be downloaded to a computer then transferred to the device over USB. For library patrons, this means Penguin eBooks will no longer be available for over-the-air delivery to Kindle devices or to Kindle apps. Please note, Penguin is the only publisher at this time that is requiring this extra step. When you download an eBook using our services, go about it as you normally would. You will be prompted if an extra step is required. Thank you.

All other Amazon Kindles other than Fire (eBooks)

• Please note that to borrow a book, you must initially download the eBook using a computer. After downloading, your eBook will be available to access in your Amazon account on your Kindle.

Apple iPad/iPod Touch/iPhone (eBooks & eAudiobooks)

• You need to download "Overdrive Media Console" App in the iTunes App Store to get started (Instructions)

• Once the app is downloaded, return to this page using your web browser and use "Waterloo Cedar Falls Overdrive" at the top of this page to find an eBook. Add the eBook to your cart and check it out. Download the eBook and it will open automatically in the Overdrive Media Console App.

• To return an eBook or eAudiobook early, from the bookshelf, tap the '+' icon next to an eBook or eAudiobook, then tap 'Return/Delete.' Tap 'Return then Delete.'
  
• You may download Kindle format books to your iPad using the Kindle App from the iTunes App Store. (Instructions) *Unfortunately, Kindle App users will not be able to download Penguin published eBooks due to publisher restrictions.

Android/Blackberry/Windows 7 Phone/Smart Phones, Tablets with app stores (eBooks & eAudiobooks)

• You need to download "Overdrive Media Console" App in the App Store to get started

• Once the app is downloaded, return to this page using your web browser and use "Waterloo Cedar Falls Overdrive" at the top of this page to find an eBook. Add the eBook to your cart and check it out. Download the eBook and it will open automatically in the Overdrive Media Console App.

• ANDROID: To return an eBook or eAudiobook early, from the bookshelf, tap '+' icon next to an eBook or eAudiobook, then tap 'Return/Delete.' Tap 'Return then Delete.'
  
• BLACKBERRY: To return an eBook or eAudiobook early, from the bookshelf, select the title you would like to return, then push the Blackberry button. Select Return/Delete. Select 'Return then Delete.'
• WINDOWS 7 PHONE: To return an eBook or eAudiobook early, from the bookshelf, tap and hold an eBook or eAudiobook, then tap 'Return/Delete.' Tap 'Return then Delete.'
  

Sony eReader, Aluatek Libre Air or Color, enTourage Pocket, Kobo, Literati, Pandigital Novel, Pocketbook, Personal PC or Mac (eBooks)

iPod Classic, iPod Shuffle, MP3 player, Personal PC or Mac (eAudiobooks)

• Please note that to borrow an eAudiobook, you must use a computer loaded with Overdrive Media Console software. Once you have Overdrive Media Console on your home computer, download an eAudiobook using Waterloo Cedar Falls Overdrive or NEIGHBORS Overdrive. It will automatically open in the Overdrive Media Console software. Then, transfer the eAudioboook to your plugged in MP3 player.
